Jared du Toit, Sudarshan Yellamaraju qualify for $20m Waste Management Phoenix Open Monday qualifier.

Next week the WM Phoenix Open is the first full field $20,000,000 designated event of 2023 with a 1st prize of $3,600,000, and the ripple effect has golfers in the Phoenix area and far beyond clamouring to qualify.

There were 8 qualifiers recently to find a spot in the Monday qualifier looming after the AT&T Pebble Beach is over Sunday night.

Each of the 8 were sold out, 78 golfers paid $250 each for the 625 spots. The demand means the PGA Tour is only allowing the top 2 and ties from each to qualify for Monday.

So far 2 Canadians, lefty Team Canada member Sudarshan Yellamaraju from Mississauga who played the PGA Tour Canada in 2022, with a 63 on a Phoenix municipal course called Aguila, and Jared du Toit from Calgary who turned pro in 2017 shot 64 at Western Skies GC have advanced to Monday

There are 118 signed up for the Monday qualifier and that number may increase for 3 lucky qualifiers and that list includes established pros like Ben An, Robert Garrigus, Harry Higgs, Bo Van Pelt, and Grayson Murray amongst others.

Next year's designated events have not been announced, I've listed the 17 for this year here in numerous posts, but to stop these frantic qualifiers the PGA Tour may make theses elevated designated events 'Invitationals" which would remove the need for qualifiers.

There are those who feel that would not be good for the game as it would stop all these guys trying to catch lightning in a bottle, for a purse that could change their lives.
