TPC Potomac near Washington DC is hosting this week's Quicken Loans National for the first time and has been extensively redesigned since the PGA Tour was last here in 2006.
It is a tough tight course that favours accuracy off the tee and the opening round was played in sunny, breezy conditions.
David Lingmerth won here on Web.com Tour in 2012 and he called on that experience to shoot a -5 65 to take the first-round lead.
Canada's Nick Taylor is in a pack just a shot behind at -4 66 along with Troy Merritt, Marc Leishman, Johnson Wagner, Sung Kang, and Daniel Summerhays
Other Canucks: Mackenzie Hughes T15th at -2 68. David Hearn and Graham DeLaet T49th +171. Adam Hadwin, T66th at +272.
