'Mr Big" leads in Montreal, Canuck amateur steals the show..

Several years ago I played in a pro-am at Diamondback GC up near Stouffville when the Nationwide Tour combined with our CPGA championship and we drew Tim Petrovic as our pro.

Never heard of him before but turned out he was a great guy with a beautiful sparkling new bag and clubs (black and silver) courtesy of his sponsors.. Srixon..

We went off mid afternoon and by the time we made the turn many of the field were already hard at the barbeque and beer and Tim sent his caddy into the clubhouse to buy some "candy bars" to keep him going on the back nine..

The caddy comes back with half a dozen " Mr Big's" which Petro starts to devour as we ride down the 10th..  " Mmmmmm these are good, can't get these in the States.." and his nickname was born.. "Mr Big"

Years later, 2006, I was broadcasting from the Hamilton GC the year Furyk won his first of back to back titles and I left a box of Mr Big's at his locker... I was in the gallery at the first when he teed off and as he started his walk down the fairway I shouted "hey Mr Big" and he turned with a big smile, gave me the thumbs up and I am sure he enjoyed a couple that day !

Well he and Web.com player of the year Micheal Putnam shot 64 yesterday to grab the first round lead on a beauty day ay Royal Montreal GC..Only tough pin placements and a little breeze kept the scores from being lower..

Team Canada member Taylor Pendrith, (Richmond Hill) who just drives it a mile stole the show however, averaging 298 straight yards off the tee (5th in stats) to T3 at 65..

I have been pulling 12 hour days at Canada Post this week, instead of taking my post in the media tent..(don't ask!!) so here is the missive from Golf Canada in case you missed it.
