Rory wins PGA of America and US Vardon Trophy awards

Rory McIlroy has just won the PGA of America and US Vardon trophies.

The world number one won four times in the US during a season in which he topped the money lists on both sides of the Atlantic.

McIlroy's victories included his second major win at the US PGA in August.

The Northern Irishman will also be favourite to land the PGA Tour's own player of the year award.

Tiger Woods was runner-up for the PGA of America's Player of the Year but ineligible for the Vardon Trophy because of his injury withdrawal during the final round of the WGC Championship in Miami in March.

But for that he would have finished with an average of 68.9 to McIlroy's 68.87 but second place instead went to Jim Furyk on 69.3.

The PGA Tour has its own Player of the Year award, and members have until 30 November to vote.

Rory is defending his title in Hong Kong this week having just wrapped up the Race to Dubai after his 3rd place finish in Singapore.
