Rory out, Tiger through to semi's at lucrative exhibition event in Turkey

Rory, Tiger and 6 others including Justin Rose, Hunter Mahan, Webb Simpson, Lee Westwood, Charl Schwartzel, and Matt Kuchar have all arrived and are playing as I write in the inaugural Turkish Airlines World Golf Final in Turkey.

There are 2 groups of 4 ... Group 1 has McIlroy, Kuchar, Schwartzel and Woods leaving Westwood, Simpson, Mahan and Rose in Group 2.

It's an unusual professional format. The two groups of four, play matches against each other in an 18-hole strokeplay format; two will progress from each section to semi-finals, with the final scheduled for Friday morning

The players play a match today, then 2 tomorrow.

Turkish Airlines is the sponsor and in addition to the six-figure appearance fees for certain members of the field, the winner will receive $1.5m with the player finishing last still collecting $300,000. To ensure favourable world wide coverage they have also invited a select group of writers and officials from around the world, air fare and accommodation all paid for..

It is an unofficial event, Chubby Chandler is organizing it after the European Tour and the PGA Tour turned it down.  As Chandler said, "Turkey has great golf courses, the problem is nobody here plays it "

With the hope of winning the 2020 Olympic Games, Turkey is hoping to get a regular Euro Tour event as soon as 2013, and wants to draw golfers from around the world away from traditional resorts in Spain and Portugal.
