Merry Christmas and a Happy, Healthy, New Year to all our Posties !!
It's a foggy mild early Christmas Eve morning with a big wind storm heading our way from the SW later this afternoon and overnight, so Santa will have to be at his best landing those reindeer on all our roofs ! I look forward to gathering with my sisters, their kids, and dear old dad, Bill Angus, soon to be 96 for a nice meal tomorrow, sharing a few stories, love and happiness, that's what it's all about isn't it !
I have taken a part time job over the summer and now at Christmas with Canada Post and am helping out at the Don Mills depot with some great men and women, my supervisors Chris Nesbitt, Tim Wallace and Chandra are a pleasure to work with, all very talented at what they do, organizing us all every morning, and as important in what is often a seemingly uncaring big operation, they care..
So we will all be out in the rain and wind today bringing your mail and packets and presents and may I say as an outsider looking in, none of you have any idea of the job these posties do every day. Just sorting the mail every morning is a huge job in it's own right and the routes they walk are all way too long, with way too much mail, and of course in all weather. Imagine being outside in the dark, in a strange neighbourhood, in the dead of winter, every dog is barking at you, with no help except your miners head light and your own determination, expected to deliver all the mail in your truck before you finish or else!
I have had a great career in sports management and of course in broadcasting and producing for the last 25 years, and have seen a lot of life on both sides of the Atlantic, but in all honesty the job these guys are expected to do every day is as onerous as they come.
So spare a thought this Christmas to your local postie. They will be at work all day today, then back at it Monday morning no matter what the weather. They deserve your respect, they certainly have mine..

Rory was the Story in 2014..
Rory McIlroy finally grew up to become a man in front of our eyes this year as he took the golf world by storm and emerged as the best player on the planet, the undisputed world #1
His sensational summer started late in May after a much publicized break up with fiancé Caroline Wozniacki, days after sitting down to send out their wedding invitations he celebrated with his first win of the season at the BMW PGA Championship where he beat Shane Lowry by one shot
However he really caught fire with a 2-shot victory at the Open Championship played at Royal Liverpool for his third career major title. He shot three rounds in the 60s, enough to beat out Sergio Garcia and Rickie Fowler by two. Rickie and Sergio seemed to be step and step with Rory all summer..
Rory made it two straight events with a 2-shot victory over Garcia again at the WGC - Bridgestone Invitational then in the dark he claimed his 4th major at the PGA Championship at Valhalla holding off Phil Mickelson and Rickie again.
Of course he led a wildly successful European squad to a resounding win over Tom Watson's USA team at Gleneagles, perhaps the icing on his summer of summers.
He concluded his season with a pair of runner-up finishes at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship and the DP World Tour Championship, Dubai winning the Race to Dubai and Player of the Year honours on both sides of the Atlantic along with nearly every other award ( Vardon etc)
Rory has always been shy by nature, after the public embarrassment of splitting with Caroline, he decided to dedicate himself much like the Tiger of old to becoming the world's best. He hit the gym, his physique is now more powerful than ever, and he seems set for a long run as the dominant player in the game.
Every week is like another chapter, I remember Billy Horschel getting hot a just the right time during the Fed Ex playoffs, and in a 2 week span swept the BMW, the Tour Championship and the Cup along with the $10m bonus, securing the future of his daughter, born a week after his win ..
The majors if you forgot went like this..
*10–13 April: Masters Tournament – Bubba Watson won by three strokes to claim his second Masters championship.
12–15 June: U.S. Open – Martin Kaymer won at Pinehurst by eight strokes, becoming the first German player to win the U.S. Open, and the first player to win the Players Championship and the U.S. Open in the same year. This was his second major victory.
17–20 July: The Open Championship – Rory McIlroy won by two strokes over Rickie Fowler and Sergio García at Royal Liverpool. It was his third career major championship, and his first Open Championship. With the win, he became the fourth player ever of 25 years old or under to have won at least three majors.
7–10 August: PGA Championship – Rory McIlroy won by one stroke over Phil Mickelson at Valhalla. It was his fourth career major and his second PGA Championship. It was also his third win in three starts, dating back to the Open Championship three weeks earlier.
Canadian Golf highlights
Brooke Henderson, now 17, was an integral member of Golf Canada’s National Amateur Team across the past three years. This summer she won the individual title at the 2014 Women’s World Amateur Team Championship and led Canada to a silver medal. As a 16-year-old, she was runner-up at the 2014 U.S. Women’s Amateur and tied for 10th at the 2014 U.S. Women’s Open at Pinehurst No. 2.
She won three professional tournaments including two Canadian Women’s Tour events and the 2014 PGA of Canada Women’s Championship. Henderson’s Canadian Women’s Tour victory in 2012 at the age of 14 years, 9 months and 3 days made her the youngest player (male or female) ever to win a professional golf event.
Adam Hadwin had a great year on the Web.com tour and he won full status on the PGA Tour for this season. Rod Spittle was 5th at the very tough Champions Tour Q school and he will have full status as a result next year..

Veteran Jimmy Walker had a career year with 2 wins early on, Patrick Reed and
Jordan Speith emerged with wins and a stunning partnership at the Ryder Cup..

'Wayda' go Fritschy !!
In honour of my pal and morning show broadcast partner Bill Hayes I say 'wayda go Fritschy' to Brad Fritsch on his impressive win at the Web.com Q school.
There are many things that irritate Bill, many all to evident in our daily shows, but calling Canadian golfers Weirsy, or Fritschy is one of them. Of course as a reknown hockey puck, he's alright with Clarkey or Ozzie, or Bergy or all the hundreds of "y's" that are hung on hockey players... but that's just Bill."y"...!!
Fritschy is so typically Canadian, down to earth, modest, is sponsored by the NHL in particular the Ottawa Senators, is a regular contributer to HF Boards a reknown hockey billboard site, and fyi he met his wife Megan on an internet dating site.
In a recent interview he told me how meeting Megan, having their pride and joy, daughter Hannah and moving to Holly Springs NC has really given him the base and motivation to be a success on tour.." I have the most wonderful, supportive wife and daughter waiting at home and of course living in Holly Springs I can practice all year round.."

Canada’s Brad Fritsch will have a little more reason to celebrate this holiday season. The 37-year-old carded a final-round 66 to take home Web.com Tour Q-School medalist honours, earning $25,000 (U.S.).
His 27-under total of 402 (72, 64, 65, 65, 70, 66) at PGA National was 7-strokes better than American Andrew Landry, who finished runner-up.
Fritsch played the PGA Tour for the past two seasons, but his 2014 total of $568,391 (U.S.) in earnings left him 140th on the money list and 151st in FedEx Cup points, both outside the top-125 cutoff to retain privileges for 2015. He then failed to earn his way back onto the PGA Tour in the Web.com Tour’s four-event fall qualifying series.
Winning medalist honours gives Fritsch full Web.com Tour status for the entire 2015, meaning he has the flexibility of picking and playing any tournament he chooses.
The Ottawa resident isn’t new to the PGA Tour’s developmental circuit. In 2014, he had four top-10 finishes on the Web.com Tour without a victory. He had also previously maintained Web.com Tour status for next year, but prior to winning was only guaranteed entry into four tournaments before the ranks would be re-shuffled according to earnings.
“I think finally winning is great for my mind,” Fritsch told PGATour.com staff. “Because I was never much of a winner in junior golf, amateur golf, whatever. This is great, because I finally got out to a big, big lead. Usually for me, if I’m in first or second or third with one round remaining, I play an OK round and finish second or third. That’s not terrible, but it was nice to execute in the final round when I had to.
“I think executing down the stretch and learning how to build a big lead, learning how to play with a big lead, is important. You can start to play defense, and I didn’t, and I’m happy about that.”
For the rest of the field, getting into the top 45 was the goal for Tuesday’s final round. The top 45 finishers and ties are fully exempt until the second reshuffle of the 2015 season, while the top 10 and ties are fully exempt until the third reshuffle of the year. Anyone outside the top 45 has conditional status.
Unfortunately, only one of the other six Canadians in the field were able to crack the top 45. Peterborough, Ont.’s Ted Brown carded a final-round 73 to tie for 35th at 8-under 421.
Vancouver’s Ryan Williams (-3, 426) tied for 71st; Calgary’s Ryan Yip (+1, 430) tied for 100th; Victoria, B.C.’s Cory Renfrew (+9, 438) tied for 124th; Calgary’s Wes Heffernan (+12, 441) tied for 135th; and Montreal’s Beon Yeong Lee (+15, 444) tied for 142nd.

Fritsch leads Q school, Westwood, Chalmers are overnight winners..
If you are one who thought this 2014-15 golf season ended in Atlanta with Billy Horschel wrapping the Fed Ex Cup, or even at Gleneagles with Paul McGinley's Euro team stomping the Yanks, just have a look at the big golf names spread around the world this week, with Christmas just 11 days away..!!

With round 4 well underway Brandon Grace has seen his lead shrink to 1 shot. He opened with 62 66,72 -16. He had a five-stroke cushion after the second round, but a late surge by Lucas Bjerregaard of Denmark erased most of the advantage. Bjerregaard had an eagle on the 13th and then birdied his last three holes for a 66 to climb to second place at -15. Danny Willett of England two shots behind after a 67 and Francesco Molinari another stroke back following a 70 at this spectacular South African course, routed through a magnificent jungle valley, bordered by yet another huge game reserve.

Overnight I watched Greg Chalmers make a 2 foot putt for par on the seventh hole of a playoff after Adam Scott three-putted for bogey to hand the veteran lefthander the Australian PGA championship, for the second time.
Chalmers fired a -8 64 on the Royal Pines GC after trailing the leaders by seven strokes going into the final round to catch Scott and Wade Ormsby, who both shot 71 to get to -11.
Ormsby was eliminated when he made par on the third playoff hole, while Chalmers and Scott birdied. During the 7 holes Scott had at least 3 putts for the win, but couldn't convert. That wraps up the season down under for the Christmas break.
PGA Tour Franklin Templeton Shootout Tiburon Courses, Naples Florida

Jason Day and Cameron Tringale shot a 7-under 65 in the better-ball final round to finish at 32 under and win the Fanklin Shootout at Tiburon Golf Club by a shot. They each earned $335,000.
Leading by three shots going into the final round, they had just one birdie in the first eight holes before closing with six in their last nine.Matt Kuchar and Harris English, the 2013 winners, finished second after a 62. Kuchar just missed an eagle chip on No. 17.
Mike Weir and Retief Goosen finished in last place with a score of -15 for the week

Brad Fritsch is the overall leader thru 54 holes at Web.com Q School, after carding a 7-under 65 at PGA National on Saturday.
The Ottawa resident made six birdies and an eagle on the day to back up his second-round 64. Fritsch’s only bogey was on the 11th hole. He currently sits alone atop the leaderboard at -14, two strokes ahead of Americans Rick Cochran III and Matt Fast.
Ted Brown of Peterborough, Ont. also had a strong third round, carding a 4-under 68 and improving 13 spots into a tie for 32nd overall at -5 for the week.
Vancouver’s Ryan Williams was also under par Saturday, shooting a 3-under 69 on the Fazio course to improve to 44th, while Victoria’s Cory Renfrew dropped into 86th place after an even-par 72.
Calgary’s Ryan Yip (76) and Wes Heffernan (75) both struggled Saturday on the Champion Course, shooting over par. Yip is currently tied for 117th at 6 over, with Heffernan sitting 7 over in a tie for 126th.

Asian Tour Thailand Championship

AP..CHONBURI, Thailand -- Lee Westwood has just won the Asian Tour`s $1 million Thailand Golf Championship by one shot on Sunday after U.S. Open champion Martin Kaymer and third-round leader Marcus Fraser both slipped up at the end.
Westwood reeled off seven birdies in 10 holes then tapped in for par at the last to complete a superb five-under-par round of 67 for an eight-under total of 280.
Fraser could have forced a playoff with a par of his own at the last but the Australian made a bogey to drop back to seven-under. Kaymer also came unstuck right near the end, making his only bogey of the day on the penultimate hole, to finish tied with Fraser, one behind Westwood.
PNC Father/Son Challenge
Curtis and Tom Strange saved par from a greenside water hazard on the 17th hole and finished with a 10-under 62 on Saturday for a share of the first-round lead with Bernhard and Jason Langer in the PNC Father/Son Challenge scramble event.
Langer turned to 14-year-old son Jason after daughter Christina withdrew because of back issues.
Defending champions Stewart and Connor Cink were a stroke back at The Ritz Carlton Golf Club along with Johnny and Andy Miller, Vijay and Qass Singh, and Hale and Steve Irwin. Jack and Jack II Nicklaus had a 67.
LPGA Dubai Ladies Masters.
China's Shanshan Feng won the Dubai Ladies Masters for the second time in three years, closing with a 2-under 70 last night for a five-stroke victory in the Ladies European Tour's season-ending event.
The fifth-ranked Feng, the LPGA Malaysia winner in October, had a 19-under 269 total on Emirates Golf Club's Majlis Course. Spain's Carlota Ciganda was second after a 69.
England's Charley Hull tied for fifth to win the tour's money title at 17 years of age, the youngest ever..

Chalmers fired a -8 64 on the Royal Pines GC after trailing the leaders by seven strokes going into the final round to catch Scott and Wade Ormsby, who both shot 71 to get to -11.
Ormsby was eliminated when he made par on the third playoff hole, while Chalmers and Scott birdied. During the 7 holes Scott had at least 3 putts for the win, but couldn't convert. That wraps up the season down under for the Christmas break.

Jason Day and Cameron Tringale shot a 7-under 65 in the better-ball final round to finish at 32 under and win the Fanklin Shootout at Tiburon Golf Club by a shot. They each earned $335,000.
Leading by three shots going into the final round, they had just one birdie in the first eight holes before closing with six in their last nine.Matt Kuchar and Harris English, the 2013 winners, finished second after a 62. Kuchar just missed an eagle chip on No. 17.
Mike Weir and Retief Goosen finished in last place with a score of -15 for the week

Brad Fritsch is the overall leader thru 54 holes at Web.com Q School, after carding a 7-under 65 at PGA National on Saturday.
The Ottawa resident made six birdies and an eagle on the day to back up his second-round 64. Fritsch’s only bogey was on the 11th hole. He currently sits alone atop the leaderboard at -14, two strokes ahead of Americans Rick Cochran III and Matt Fast.
Ted Brown of Peterborough, Ont. also had a strong third round, carding a 4-under 68 and improving 13 spots into a tie for 32nd overall at -5 for the week.
Vancouver’s Ryan Williams was also under par Saturday, shooting a 3-under 69 on the Fazio course to improve to 44th, while Victoria’s Cory Renfrew dropped into 86th place after an even-par 72.
Calgary’s Ryan Yip (76) and Wes Heffernan (75) both struggled Saturday on the Champion Course, shooting over par. Yip is currently tied for 117th at 6 over, with Heffernan sitting 7 over in a tie for 126th.

Asian Tour Thailand Championship
AP..CHONBURI, Thailand -- Lee Westwood has just won the Asian Tour`s $1 million Thailand Golf Championship by one shot on Sunday after U.S. Open champion Martin Kaymer and third-round leader Marcus Fraser both slipped up at the end.
Westwood reeled off seven birdies in 10 holes then tapped in for par at the last to complete a superb five-under-par round of 67 for an eight-under total of 280.
Fraser could have forced a playoff with a par of his own at the last but the Australian made a bogey to drop back to seven-under. Kaymer also came unstuck right near the end, making his only bogey of the day on the penultimate hole, to finish tied with Fraser, one behind Westwood.
PNC Father/Son Challenge
Curtis and Tom Strange saved par from a greenside water hazard on the 17th hole and finished with a 10-under 62 on Saturday for a share of the first-round lead with Bernhard and Jason Langer in the PNC Father/Son Challenge scramble event.
Langer turned to 14-year-old son Jason after daughter Christina withdrew because of back issues.
Defending champions Stewart and Connor Cink were a stroke back at The Ritz Carlton Golf Club along with Johnny and Andy Miller, Vijay and Qass Singh, and Hale and Steve Irwin. Jack and Jack II Nicklaus had a 67.
LPGA Dubai Ladies Masters.
China's Shanshan Feng won the Dubai Ladies Masters for the second time in three years, closing with a 2-under 70 last night for a five-stroke victory in the Ladies European Tour's season-ending event.
The fifth-ranked Feng, the LPGA Malaysia winner in October, had a 19-under 269 total on Emirates Golf Club's Majlis Course. Spain's Carlota Ciganda was second after a 69.
England's Charley Hull tied for fifth to win the tour's money title at 17 years of age, the youngest ever..

Kim is lone Canuck to win full LPGA status at Q School
Daytona, Fla. — Soo-Bin Kim could not carry over the momentum from her 65 a day earlier, but still earned exemption status on the 2015 LPGA Tour after carding a 3-over 75 in the final round of LPGA Q School on Sunday.
The Coquitlam, B.C. resident struggled on the back nine of LPGA International’s Hills Course, going four-over par in her final four holes. However, her eight birdies in Rd. 4 proved to be enough to keep her in the Top 20 and ensure her LPGA card for next season. She finished the week in a tie for 11th at -5.
Toronto’s Rebecca Lee-Bentham shot a 73 in Sunday’s finale and finished in a tie for 28th with an overall score of -2 for the week. Although she did not finish in the Top 20, the 2011 Canadian Women’s Amateur champion was able to secure conditional status on the 2015 circuit by finishing in the Top 45.
Failing to earn a spot for the 2015 tour were Samantha Richdale of Kelowna, B.C. (+5, T58) and Maude-Aimee Leblanc of Sherbrooke Que (+5, T64).

Daly wins in Turkey, will marry his caddie..
In other golf news this weekend..
AP....John Daly, who hasn't tasted victory on the PGA Tour since 2004, won the Beko Classic in Turkey on Saturday. The tournament is a 54-hole pro-am event sanctioned by the PGAs of Europe.
Daly, looking as trim as I've seen him in years, shot a final-round 72 to beat Robert Coles by a shot. Also in the field were 2011 Open Championship winner Darren Clarke and former European Ryder Cup player Paul Broadhurst.
Daly announced Thursday via social media that he would marry his longtime girlfriend and current caddie, Anna Cladakis.
AP..Meanwhile in Indonesia, Ireland's Padraig Harrington claimed his first worldwide victory since 2010, winning the Indonesia Open by 2 shots, as he held off Thailand's Thanyakon Khrongpha in the Asian Tour event at the Damai Indah Golf, PIK Course.
"Winning is a good habit to have," Harrington said. "It gives you a lot of confidence and I need that confidence. I didn't start too well but I came through and I got the win. This win brings a lot of confidence to my game and hopefully it will show up next year."
In the current 2014-15 PGA Tour season, Harrington has four starts, missing the cut twice and finishing T-75 and T-73 in the other two events. He hasn't had a top-10 finish on the PGA Tour since a T-10 at the FedEx St. Jude Classic in June, 2013.
Speith laps the field, Willett wins in South Africa
While winter continues to tighten it's grip on many of us, Jordan Speith and Danny Willett came out the winners in much warmer climes this weekend..

He capped off trips to Japan, Australia and back to Florida with his second straight win, this time Tiger's Hero World Challenge with rounds of 66 67 63 66 -26, TEN shots clear of the 18 man field including a guy who just won the player of the month award on the European Tour, Henrik Stenson who shot 69 to get to -16..
He made it look way to easy in benign conditions on the Isleworth GC. He asked his caddie if there was an event they could play in this week, he just doesn't want the streak to end !..He put another $1m in his jeans for his efforts..
As for the host, Tiger got better as the week went on, both physically and with his game 77,70 69 72, he hasn't played competitively in 4 months and feels if he can stay healthy, especially his lower back, he'll be able to compete again..

5 Canadians play today in LPGA Q school final round..
Daytona, Fla. — Soo-Bin Kim tied for low-round of the day and improved 29 spots with a masterful 7-under 65 at the LPGA qualifying final on Saturday, easily advancing to today's finale after the field narrowed to 70 golfers at +2.
The Coquitlam, B.C. resident made eight birdies in her penultimate round, including three on the last four holes, to jump into a five-way tie for 9th overall at -8.
Canadian-born golfers Rebecca Lee-Bentham, Samantha Richdale and Maude-Aimee Leblanc will join Kim for Sunday’s final at the LPGA International Hills Course.
Toronto’s Lee-Bentham, the 2011 Canadian Women’s Amateur champion, continued her solid play from earlier this week, carding an unblemished 2-under 70 and advancing into 32nd place.
Samantha Richdale of Kelowna, B.C., who began the day in 11th place, struggled in Rd. 4, making three bogeys and a double on her front nine en route to a 5-over 77, but still survived the field’s contraction. She will tee off on Sunday tied for 54th.

In Sun City on the magnificent Gary Player GC, 30 invited players from the European Tour, bring their wives, girlfriends and family to this stunning resort in the northwest part of South Africa in the Pilanesburg mountain range, carved out of the jungle, surrounded by game reserves and they stay at the " Palace" hotel, a 5 star beauty perched on top of a hill that caters to all their needs.
This year 30 players vie for full Race to Dubai points and a first place cheque of $1.25 in the first event od the 2015 season.

Donald hasn't won since 2012, proving once again how hard it is to maintain the form that gets players to world #1. Like so many others he tinkered with his swing to get more length and accuracy off the tee, and his form suffered. A baboon scared the hell out of Luke as it emerged from the bush and ran up the fairway right towards him before ambling fearlessly up towards the green.
Lee Westwood, Martin Kaymer are recent examples of #1's who have tumbled down the rankings in search of something they could trust under pressure..
In my opinion events like this "invitational" should revert to what they were before 2006, a nice golfing holiday in a remarkable part of the world all paid for by a sponsor, for a great purse, but carrying no official relevance to the year's points system or
other benefits that come with a normal full field tour event.

Tiger who opened with a 77, recoverd with 70 69 E is last in the field and shouldn't even be playing he is so sick, yesterday he was throwing up on the course. He has lost weight since we last saw him, looks a lot leaner.

12 Canucks start tomorrow at LPGA Q School
There are 20 spots up for grabs for the 2015 LPGA season starting at the final stage of Q School tomorrow, and there are 12 Canadians in the field.. Here is a report from Dave Kaplan of Golf Canada..
The LPGA Final Qualifying Tournament will get underway tomorrow at Daytona Beach, Fla. and 12 Canadians will tee-it-up with hopes of securing LPGA Tour status for 2015.
The final qualifier is a 90-hole, stroke-play format and will be played on the Jones and Hill courses at LPGA International.
The top 20 players from the 154-player field will earn Priority in Category 12 (full-time status for 2015), while players finishing 21st -45th will receive Priority in Category 17 (conditional-status for 2015).
There will be a 72-hole cut after play on Saturday. The top 70 plus ties will tee off in the fifth and final round on Sunday.
There is a $50,000 purse for the event with the medalist taking home $5,000.
