McIlroy back on top at HSBC- WGC in Shanghai !!

Rory McIlroy gave the clearest indication yet that he is getting back to his best form with a majestic seven under par opening round of 65 in the WGC-HSBC Champions as he established a two shot lead in Shanghai.

The former World Number One stated prior to the €8.5million tournament that he was in the mood to clinch his first victory of 2013, and he produced a performance to back up those feelings at Sheshan International Golf Club.

McIlroy carded seven birdies and just the single bogey on the 11th hole – his second of the day after starting on the tenth tee – to lead Wales’ Jamie Donaldson and last week’s BMW Masters champion Gonzalo Fernandez-Castaño.

It was a timely display by the Northern Irishman, who started the event in 62nd place on The Race to Dubai and in need of a good performance to break into the top 60 in order to secure his spot in the season ending DP World Tour Championship, Dubai in a fortnight.

It felt good to be out there and be in control of my golf ball,” said the World Number Six.  “I gave myself a lot of looks for birdies. It's a great start, but it's only 18 holes.  It's only one round of golf, but it's definitely the way I wanted, and needed, to start this week, keeping in mind that I obviously want to play myself into Dubai and try to pick up my first win of the season, as well. “

Starting from the tenth with a birdie, McIlroy gave the shot straight back at the next but also picked up shots at the 12th, 14th and 16th.

A long birdie putt was left inches short on the par three 17th hole, but McIlroy made no such mistake from four feet on the par five 18th to reach the turn in 32, before another birdie on the first took the two-time Major Champion into a share of the lead on five under.

McIlroy moved into the outright lead with a birdie on the par five second and added another birdie when he holed from seven feet for a birdie on the par five eighth to move clear at the top of the leaderboard.

It's one of the best rounds I've played this season,” he said. “I shot 64 at Boston, so that was a good round of golf.  But this is probably better just because it was a little trickier conditions.  There was a bit of breeze and you've got to play good golf to shoot seven under around this place.”

Spaniard Fernandez-Castaño, targeting back-to-back wins in Shanghai, birdied four holes in a row on his back nine to card a five under par 67, while Welshman Donaldson’s round included a 22ft putt for eagle on the 16th hole.

A shot further back on four under par is US Open Champion Justin Rose, who recovered from a double bogey on his second hole of the day, former Masters Champion Bubba Watson and two players making their debut in a World Golf Championships event, England’s Tommy Fleetwood and American Jordan Spieth.

Open Champion Phil Mickelson briefly accompanied McIlroy at the top of the leaderboard after a flawless opening 16 holes. But the World Number Two dropped five shots in his last two holes, putting it in the water twice on the par five eighth en route to a quadruple bogey nine, then finishing his round with a bogey to sign for a one under par 71 and a share of 28th position, the same as defending champion Ian Poulter, and Graham DeLaet

Rory edges a sick Tiger in China....Chamblee will be told to shut up or apologize

Bernie McGuire.....Rory McIlroy won for the first time this year, even if it was an 18-hole exhibition against Tiger Woods.

McIlroy made four birdies and an eagle over the last seven holes at Mission Hills for a 6-under 67, giving him a one-shot win over Woods. It was the second straight year McIlroy has defeated Woods at the medal match in China.

McIlroy was a major champion, No. 1 in the world and on his way to sweeping all the important awards. He signed a lucrative deal with Nike a short time later, and this season has been a struggle. McIlroy has had only one reasonable chance to win a tournament, and he didn’t even qualify for the Tour Championship on the PGA Tour. He is using a new driver and a softer golf ball, even prompting Woods to say to him after one chip, “How did you do that?”

The banter was free and easy, mostly about equipment. Woods was trying to recover from a virus he picked up from his daughter, and spent most of the afternoon asking his caddie for cough drops.
The golf was spectacular over the final hour on the Blackstone Course, however.

The match turned on the 17th hole. Woods came up short on his approach and after nearly flying his pitch into the cup, he missed a 5-foot par putt. Woods had a 20-foot eagle putt on the 18th for the tie. He missed, and McIlroy knocked in his 3-foot birdie.

Woods could hardly raise his voice after the round.
“I don’t sound all that well now, but it was nice that it was warm out there today,” Woods said. “That certainly helped because I think my fever broke and I can start feeling a bit better. But I tell you what, when you have kids, they bring home some strong bugs, and this one has definitely been kicking my butt for the last couple of days.”

McIlroy was headed back to Shanghai for the HSBC Champions. Woods is skipping the World Golf Championship, and will play next week in the Turkish Open.

Prior to the match Woods issued a veiled challenge to Golf Channel over a column written by analyst Brandel Chamblee in his first public comments since the controversy first surfaced earlier this month.

Chamblee, a longtime critic of the world’s No. 1 player, wrote a column for SI Golf Plus in which he gave Woods an “F” for his season for being “a little cavalier” with the rules.

Chamblee is best known for his work with Golf Channel, though he also is a contributor to SI Golf Plus. He took to Twitter last week to apologize to Woods for “this incited discourse,” though not for the content of his column.

All I am going to say is that I know I am going forward,” Woods said. “But then, I don’t know what the Golf Channel is going to do or not. But then that’s up to them. The whole issue has been very disappointing as he didn’t really apologize and he sort of reignited the whole situation.
So the ball really is in the court of the Golf Channel and what they are prepared to do.”

Golf Channel has not commented on the flap. Chamblee has said he was not asked to apologize by anyone. Chamblee saved Woods for last in his report card of 14 players in a column posted Oct. 18 on Golf.com. He told of getting caught cheating on a math test in the fourth grade, and how the teacher crossed a line through his “100” and gave him an “F.”

Chamblee followed that anecdote by writing, “I remember when we only talked about Tiger’s golf. I miss those days. He won five times and contended in majors and won the Vardon Trophy and ... how shall we say this ... was a little cavalier with the rules.” He then gave Woods a “100” with a line through it, followed by the “F.”

In one of his tweets last week, Chamblee said he intended to point out Woods’ rules infractions, “but comparing that to cheating in grade school went too far.”

Woods’ agent, Mark Steinberg, was so incensed by the column that he issued a statement to ESPN.com that raised the possibility of legal action. Steinberg shared his client’s views.

Chamblee said in an email last week to The Associated Press that he never said outright that he thinks Woods cheated, and that was by design.
“I think ‘cavalier with the rules’ allows for those with a dubious opinion of the BMW video,” Chamblee said. “My teacher in the fourth grade did not have a dubious opinion of how I complete the test. But she was writing to one, and as I was writing to many, I felt it important to allow for the doubt some might have, so I chose my words accordingly.

What people want to infer about that is up to them,” he said. “I have my opinion, they can form theirs.”

Chamblee has developed a reputation for being critical of Woods, mainly regarding his golf game. His column struck a nerve with many, however, because of the implication that three rules violations and a penalty drop involving Woods amounted to cheating — the strongest accusation possible in golf.

What brought me here was the realization that my comments inflamed an audience on two sides of an issue,” Chamblee wrote on Twitter when he apologized. “Golf is a gentleman’s game and I’m not proud of this debate. I want to apologize to Tiger for this incited discourse

Comment :  The GC has been a half wedge away from being called the TC as in Tiger Channel throughout it's time on air. They are completely driven like all of us by ratings and Tiger has  provided them with a popularity that has made the staff and station very comfortably well off.

I have been in the camp that has railed against their overwhelmingly one dimensional coverage of every tournament he is in whether he shoots 64 or 84, so while I welcome a voice, in this case Chamblee's, that is even remotely critical, eventually there is too much at stake for the suits to risk, and Chamblee will be told in no uncertain terms to shut up, or issue a formal apology

Tiger can boycott the station, and the word will be clear to all his peers who are beholding to him for the lucrative game they play week in and week out...

The GC simply cannot have that.

Round 4 Final

Ryan Moore birdied the first playoff hole to beat Gary Woodland and capture the CIMB Classic title on Monday after an overnight wait caused by storms and darkness.

Moore had to fight just to get in the playoff, hitting an awkward 60-yard wedge shot on the 18th hole Sunday that dropped within several feet of the hole and allowed him to salvage par.

Graham DeLaet was tied for the lead before going bogey, double at 15 and 16. He finished T7 at -10

Lake Malaran GC
Shanghai, China

Round 4 Final

Gonzalo Fernandez-Castaño produced a stunning final round to win the first Final Series event on The Race to Dubai at the BMW Masters presented by SRE Group.

The Spaniard survived a late wobble at the last – he found two bunkers en route to a double bogey six, but 17 holes of flawless ball striking had given him sufficient room to claim a seventh European Tour title with a closing 68 and 11 under par total at Lake Malaren.
That was one shot ahead of Seve Trophy team-mate Francesco Molinari and Thailand's Thongchai Jaidee, the Italian coming from six shots off the pace at the start of the day.

Round 4 Final

Suzann Pettersen fired a final-round 3-under 69 to claim her 14th career LPGA Tour victory and successfully defend her title at the Sunrise LPGA Taiwan Championship.

It was a head-to-head battle with Spaniard Azahara Munoz throughout the day but Pettersen pulled away late in the round to secure a five-stroke victory and clinch her fourth win of the season

Rod Spittle T15 -6 69 70 71  Jim Rutledge 73 75 70

Round 3 Final
Kenny Perry made a 10-foot birdie putt on the first hole of a playoff with Bernhard Langer on Sunday to win the Champions Tour's AT&T Championship. Perry and Langer each shot 5-under 67 to finish at 13-under 203 on TPC San Antonio's AT&T Canyons Course. Perry saved par on the final hole of regulation with an 18-foot putt

Fred Funk, Colin Montgomerie and Kirk Triplett tied for third, two shots back. Funk shot 67, Triplett had a 68 and Montgomerie a 69.

Rod Spittle shot a final round 71 to finish in a tie for 15th. The result left him 31st on the money list, just under $17,000 behind Steve Elkington, which means he fails to retain his Tour status for next year. Spittle also came up 39 points shy of qualifying for the season ending Schwab Cup Championship.

Kolon Korea Open
Woo Jeong Hilss CC
Cheonan, SKorea

Round 4  Final

Kang Sung-hoon won the Kolon Korea Open in stunning circumstances on Sunday after overnight leader Kim Hyung-tae was penalised two shots just as he appeared to be marching to victory.

Kim stood on the 17th tee with an apparent two-shot lead when he was approached by a rules official who informed him and playing partner Hong Soon-sang that they had both grounded a club in an area deemed to be a hazard on the 13th, and what they thought were fours were actually sixes

The pair finished their round, but before signing their scorecards they returned to the 13th and spent nearly two hours in deep discussion with officials, who also repeatedly consulted TV footage of the incident.

Kim argued he had never grounded his club, but was eventually persuaded to sign for a six by the Korean Golf Association rules committee, who had voted 5-3 against him.

The resulting 77 left him at three under for a share of second place, one shot behind champion Kang but alongside two-time Major winner Rory McIlroy (67), Lee Sang-hee (68), Mo Joong-kyung (72) and amateur Lee Chang-woo (69).

Round 4 Final

In the final round of the Frys.com Open at CordeValle Golf Club, Jimmy Walker shot a 5-under 66 to win his first PGA TOUR event. Tied for the lead with four holes to play Sunday, Walker rolled in a 6-foot birdie putt on the 15th hole to take the lead for good in the Frys.com Open. Three closing pars for a 5-under 66 turned out to be more than enough for the 34-year-old Texan to take home a trophy and plenty of perks t -17

Brooks Koepka had a four-shot lead with 11 holes to play, and looked as poised and confident as he had all week at CordeValle. but Koepka missed a 6-foot putt on the 15th that would have matched birdies with Walker, who was playing in the group ahead of him. Koepka then missed his tee shot wildly to the left on the 16th hole and had to scramble for bogey. Down to his last shot, he hit into the water on the 297-yard, par-4 17th for another bogey he ended up with 72, -14

EUROPEAN- PORTUGAL MASTERS
COURSE: Oceanico Victoria Golf Club (7,209 yards, par 71).

Round 4 Final
England’s David Lynn came from six shots back to snatch victory at the Portugal Masters with an inspired final round 63 at Oceânico Victoria Golf Course.

A week after being laid low by a virus at the Seve Trophy by Golf+, where he was swiftly dispatched 6 and 4 by Miguel Angel Jiménez in the Sunday singles as Continental Europe beat Great Britain & Ireland, Lynn had completely contrasting emotions in the Algarve as his 18 under par total saw him finish a shot clear of Justin Walters.

Lynn’s second European Tour title sees him climb back into the Official World Golf Ranking's top 50 a week before his 40th birthday.

The former US PGA Championship runner-up, whose only previous win in almost 400 events came in the KLM Open in 2004, charged into contention with five birdies in a front nine of 30 and, after a bogey at the tenth, picked up further shots at the 11th, 14th, 15th and 17th to set a clubhouse target that was never matched

On the watery par-3 17th, Adams secured that win, lacing a 4-iron from 189 yards into the wind to set up what turned out to be a go-ahead birdie en route to a final-round 68 and a 10-under 203 total, good for a one-shot victory and the seventh win of his eGolf Tour career

Canada's Ted Brown, a two-time eGolf Tour winner and full-time caddie at famed Kinloch Golf Club in Virginia, played in the day’s first twosome off of No. 10, surviving bogeys on Nos. 11 and 18 to come from nowhere with a final-round 64 and a 9-under tally for the week. good for T2

USA wins Presidents Cup.... Europe win Seve Trophy

Rain interrupted the matches all week and made Muirfield Village so soft that it was mere target practice for the best players from every continent but Europe. It was a long, tiring week of leaving the course at darkness and completing matches the next morning when it was just as dark.

The Americans might have won this Presidents Cup on Sunday morning.
Returning to finish off the foursomes session, the Americans picked up a win and a halve in matches they had trailed by three holes to lead 14-8

In the end, despite a 71/2 point effort in the singles, USA walked off with the final score, United States 18.5, International 15.5 and whether the matches would beat the rain was really the only suspense on Sunday.

Here are all the tournaments from around the world this week with live scoring links to them all.

Round 4 final

With the $270,000 winner’s check, Feng crossed the $3 million mark in career earnings and said the victory this week was just as sweet as her major championship last year at the Wegmans LPGA Championship

Round 4 final
Will Collins of Salisbury, NC was 10 years old, he used to play games with his friends on the putting green at the Country Club of Salisbury, host of this week’s Salisbury Classic. A few years later he began to compete in tournaments, developing a resume stout enough to provide four years of college golf at the University of Virginia.

This week Collins’ hometown story came full circle, as a final-round 64 on an ever-moving leaderboard provided a spot alongside Dustin Bray of Asheboro, NC in a sudden death playoff, where the gentile kid from just down the street emerged victorious after a birdie on the third extra hole.
