Westwood continues to dominate in Malaysia..Canuck, Lee T6

European Tour Maybank Malaysian Open scoreboard http://espn.go.com/golf/leaderboard?tour=euro

Lee Westwood clearly loves this Kuala Lumpur course having won here by 7 shots last year. Early this morning (ET) he posted a -5 67 to get to -11 133 good for the 2nd round lead along with red hot Spaniard Alejandro Canizares -7 65, -11.

Canada's Richard T Lee shot a second straight 69 and currently is T6 at -6. Afterward he admitted he missed Vancouver, but went on to say "after 3 years making no money on the Web.com tour, I decided to join the Asian Tour" and promptly won the Rookie of the Year award in 2014. " I need to improve my putting and then I should be alright"..

Graeme McDowell slipped to a +1 73 and is currently T8 -5. The late wave are out now but it is unlikely any of them will catch the leaders..

More to follow...

Three Canucks to start at Torrey Pines..DeLaet withdraws with flu..

PGA Tour Farmers Insurance scoreboard http://espn.go.com/golf/leaderboard?tour=pga

The PGA tour has moved from the desert of Arizona to the spectacular west coast near San Diego to Torrey Pines North and South. Tiger who has won here 8 times when he was in his prime is off at 1220 ET and Phil Mickelson who lives in San Diego is off at 1330 ET...

If you needed another reminder of the changing of the PGA Tour guard, for once neither is favoured to win, with Tiger slipping to 50-1 with the bookies.

Three Canadians are in the field, Mike Weir (1240 ET), Roger Sloan (100 ET) and Adam Hadwin (150ET). The PGA tour twitter site is reporting Graham DeLaet has withdrawn with the flu and will be replaced by Greg Chalmers.

European Tour Maybank Malaysian Open scoreboard http://espn.go.com/golf/leaderboard?tour=euro

If you are going to play the European Tour you better be ready to travel. After 3 weeks in the Middle East, they have flown to the heat and humidity of Kuala Lumpur, the 4th country these guys have visited already this calendar year. with 23 more to go !

Koepka's Phoenix win doesn't surprise me..DeLaet finishes T7..

PGA Tour final scoreboard http://espn.go.com/golf/leaderboard?tour=pga

On yesterday's coverage of the Waste Management Phoenix Open Steve Sands (Golf Channel) finally caught himself and apologized to the audience for talking about Brooks Koepka as though nobody in the States had ever heard of him..

You weren't wrong Steve, but then again we all know that most Yanks don't know what's going out outside their own town, city or state, never mind in another country which is where Brooks has being plying his trade for the last 2 years, on both the Challenge then the European Tour.

Yesterday he closed with a -5 66 for a one-shot victory and his first PGA Tour title and this is his second win in four starts because he won the Turkish Airlines Open  in Europe in November, and he is now #19 in the world

Hideki Matsuyama had an 18-foot putt to force a playoff on the last hole, but he never got it on line and closed with a 67 T2 along with Bubba Watson (65) and Ryan Palmer (66). Martin Laird struggled all day but was still tied for the lead with two holes to play, but hit into the gallery on the 17th then hooked his tee shot into the aqua on the 18th for a bogey, double bogey finish (72)

Graham DeLaet showed a welcome return to form with a strong  67 T7 -11 good for over $211,000. Both Nick Taylor 70, and Corey Renfrew 66, T59 worth $13,734.

I've long argued that going to play in Europe and learning to cope with different cultures, countries, terrains, food, failure, loneliness, illness better prepares you for the PGA Tour and indeed life than all the beautifully manicured courses, comfort food etal on the Web.com tour and this quote from Koepka after wards confirms my position..

"I didn't think I would work my way up this quickly, but playing the Challenge and European tours led to this. And especially the failure I've had. I can't tell you how much I learned from that."

Get used to this young man folks, he hits it a mile, has all the tools and has honed his game travelling the world with his Florida team mate, former U.S. Amateur champion Peter Uihlein, he hasn't just arrived, he's been here for 2 years... or should I say...there...!

Laird the leader in Phoenix....

PGA Tour Phoenix Open live scoreboard http://espn.go.com/golf/leaderboard?tour=pga

Martin Laird, a 32-year-old Scot from Glasgow who has lived in Scottsdale for13 years fired a -3 68 -13 to take a three shot lead into today's final round. Trying to catch him will be a couple of young guns in Hideki Matsuyama (63), the 22-year-old from Japan who is No. 18 in the world, and 24-year-old rising star Brooks Koepka (64) along with the wedge wizard Zach Johnson, who shot a 67

Laird will be going for his fourth PGA Tour victory. The biggest cheer of the day  belonged to Francesco Molinari, who made the first hole-in-one at the 16th on Saturday at the Phoenix Open since Tiger Woods in 1997. The crowd showered the green area with beer cans, can you imagine that being allowed at any other golf venue ? The ace helped him to a 64, and at -8 205, he was among 15 players still within five shots of the lead.

Canadians : Graham DeLaet -2 69 -7 T17, Nick Taylor 71 E T59, Corey Renfrew +3 74 +4 75th

***They are paired in 3's today and off split tees, starting at 905 local time or 1105am est

Lydia Ko finishes T2 becomes youngest World #1...Final scoreboard

LPGA Tour Coates Golf Championship final scoreboard http://espn.go.com/golf/leaderboard?tour=lpga

Kiwi sensational Lydia Ko double-bogeyed the 71st hole in the inaugural Coates Golf Championship to lose by a shot to Na Yeon Choi, that's not the main story.

Ko made history by becoming the youngest player on any tour to become world No. 1, breaking the record set by Tiger Woods by almost four years.

She led by as many as four shots on the front nine, but trailed Choi by a shot as they played the par-3 15th where she made a 60-footer while Choi promptly three-putted for a two-shot swing. Then the double bogey at 17 followed by Choi finished with a 4-under 68 and a 16-under total, Ko had to salvage a par on the 18th to finish in a three-way tie at 15 under, but it was good enough to secure a piece of the record book.
