Armed with a renewed confidence in his putting alignment big hitting Gary Woodland has posted scores of 68 65 -9 for a two shot lead over Justin Rose 65 70 -7 heading into Saturday at this 119th US Open at Pebble Beach.
However there are plenty of stars close behind him. Louis Oosthuizen from South Africa is at -6 (66 70), Northern Ireland's Rory McIlroy is poised at -5 (68 69), defending champ Brooks Koepka is at -4 along with steady Matt Kuchar both with 69,69.
Sergio Garcia, and fellow Spaniard Jon Rahm are in a clutch at -3, along with Sweden's Henrik Stenson and former champion Graeme McDowell.
Nick Taylor made the cut for Canada 74 70 +2.
Tiger Woods is E 70 72.
