Justin Rose won this US Open...Phil didn't lose it !

In the end it turned out to be a Rose for Fathers Day as Justin Rose won the 113th US Open with a brilliant closing E 70, 281 total and a 2 shot win over Jason Day and Phil Mickelson on a very tough Merion GC.

Justin won this championship and it will be celebrated throughout Europe and around the world but I fear on this side of the pond it will be remembered as the one that Phil lost, which is wrong and unfair for so many reasons.

Do you remember Winged Foot in 2006 when Phil was leading standing on the 72nd tee?  He drove it 60 yards off line into the concession stands, tried a miracle 3 wood hook shot... well the rest of it is history..

Who won that year ??   Can't remember ??.. Geoff Ogilvy of Australia is the answer and there were no meetings after with the President or appearances on Letterman.  However as unpopular a win as that was, at least Phil did lose it..

This time Justin won it, and Phil played terrific golf, with a bounce here or there he may have won, but this was not the US Open that Phil lost, anymore than it was the US Open that Jason Day who T2 with Phil lost..

If you take the time to follow the story of Justin Rose it is a good one full of broken hearts, tragedy, perseverance, dedication, disaster and triumph..

On top of that he is a gentleman, a great family man and now the US Open champion..

Well done Rosey, even  though you may not get the respect over here you deserve.
